Hill College Men's Rodeo Team Second in Regional Standings

The Rodeo Teams competed Oct. 3-4 at Southwestern Texas Junior College and the Men’s Team is second after two rodeos. 

The Men’s Rodeo Team had five members score points for the team. In the bareback riding Tim Murphy, sophomore of Simpsonville, S.C., was second with a 78-point ride in the long go, 76 points in the short go and won the average. Colby Fedor, sophomore of Grandview, was third in the long go with a 77-point ride, didn’t get a score in the short go, but ended up seventh in the average. Parker Fleet, sophomore of Axtell, was third in the saddle bronc riding with a 77-point ride in the long go, and 84 points in the short go splitting first and second in the average. 

In the tie-down roping, Cedric Brice, freshman of Normangee, split second and third with a 9.5-second run in the long go, got a penalty in the short go and was out of the average. In the bull riding, Parker McCown, sophomore of Montgomery, won the long go and the short go with and 78- and an 82-point ride in the short go and won the average. 

Team roping header, Cyle Dennison, sophomore of Iowa, La., split fifth and sixth with a 7-second time. He and his partner, Clayton Lowry, who attends Panola Junior College had no luck in the short go and were out of the average. 

The Men’s team scored a total of 550 points to be third behind McNeese State University with 765 points and Texas A&M Commerce with 610. After this rodeo the men’s team is ranked second in the team standings with 1,044.5 points. Only 179.5 points behind McNeese State University and 37.5 points ahead of Texas A&M Commerce. 

Hill College rough stock riders are dominating the regional standings as Murphy is leading the bareback riding standings, Fleet is leading the saddle bronc riding standings, McCown is second in the bull riding standings. On the timed event side Dennison is sixth in the team roping heading standings and Brice is 12th in the tie-down roping standings. 

On the Women’s Team, in the breakaway roping, Caxton Martin, freshman from Alma, Kan., was tenth with a 2.6-second time, and made the short go. She also placed sixth in the goat tying in the long go with a 7.5-second time, and a 7.1 in the short go placing fifth. Meredith Scroggs, freshman of Kelly, La., was ninth with a 7.8-second time in the long go, she was 10th in the short go with a 9.1 and was tenth in the average. In the barrel racing, Hannah Clemens, freshman of Evant, was seventh in the long go with a time of 17.030, and sixth in the short go with a 17.190 and seventh in the average.
